Gallery change

3_11_2002 - FlagIt’s amazing what can prompt you to update your website, and what a huge chain reaction that can be. This all started about a month ago when I returned from a trip to California. I had taken a few images with my phone and wanted to put them online for others to see. Of course, I hadn’t made an update to my website in a long time, and I decided to completely redo my gallery using BananAlbum, which is a very nice flash based photo album.

However, once I did that, I started looking into ways of over-hauling the entire website. At a friend’s suggestion, I incorporate WordPress as a website management tool. Well, since then I’ve been rethinking my gallery options, and have decided I’d like to switch from the flash based gallery to a WordPress based gallery, and there are several reasons why this is a good idea!

Live Free or Die Hard

Live Free or Die Hard posterThe summer action hit, Live Free or Die Hard, the fourth in the Die Hard series, is non-stop action, and delivers exactly what you’d expect a cookie cutter action film to have. Detective John McClane (Bruce Willis) returns as possibly the unluckiest detective in the world as he once again becomes involved in a larger than life battle with a criminal mastermind. This time McClane is up against computer hacker Thomas Gabriel (Timothy Olyphant), who is bent on destroying America by hacking the nation’s infrastructures.

Morning popcorn in New York State

On the road from Boston to Ohio (I90 to I84 to I81 to I80), writing from my Treo 650 (no spell check). I’m in New York state munching on cheese & caramel popcorn. Not cheese popcorn and caramel popcorn, mind you, but both on the same popped corn.

I expect to be in Ohio by 6:30pm, after 11 hours of driving.

Maybe it’s time for digital?

I’ve been avoiding purchasing a digital camera for a long time, mainly because I’m a purist, but also because I like working in the dark room for hours with film and paper,Leica D-LUX 3 coming out smelling like fixer and hypo. Besides those reasons, I already have a Canon F1n with many accessories to carry around and couldn’t see myself piling on more camera gear. Because I use a camera from 1978 (so says the serial number) none of the accessories that I already have will work on a modern digital SLR camera. And, since I would never give up my film camera for digital, it only makes sense to get a small PAS that I can take with me everywhere for quick and spontaneous shooting. But why give up professional features for a small PAS that takes pictures you’re disappointed with?

Gallery: California, 07

Golden Gate BridgeI’ve made a number of updates to the gallery recently. Besides the major change of implementing the flash gallery I’ve also uploaded pictures of our recent trip to California.

Update: August, 2007: I’ve changed the gallery system for jonamerica.com. Galleries are now presented inline.

Pleas excuse the poor quality of these images. They were taken with the camera on my phone.

Updates, glorious updates!

You may have noticed that there have been some major changes around here. I’m please to tell you that I’ve now set up WordPress for my site. This will allow me to make new posts to the site with great ease. I’ve also updated the photo gallery, which is now a flash based gallery, which will make it easier for me to upload new images to the web. I still need to scan images, which is difficult when you don’t have a scanner. The video pages also made it over to the new site.

Of course, I still haven’t figured out exactly what I’ll be blogging about, but I’m sure something will come to me.
